Will Middlebrooks is hurt, but even when he wasn’t hurt, he hasn’t performed at the level the Red Sox had hoped he would.
Now, the Red Sox are looking to make an upgrade at third base, writes WEEI’s Rob Bradford.
An easy solution might be to put back together the left side of the infield that helped the Sox win the World Series: Xander Bogaerts at third base and Stephen Drew at shortstop.
However, the Sox don’t want to move Bogaerts off short and don’t appear all that interested in Drew at the moment either.
For the moment third base is Brock Holt’s job, who the Red Sox, with possibly the best depth in all of baseball, need just to plug a hole for the time being.
