Today Major League Baseball announced the rosters for the Arizona Fall League and as expected six Tampa Bay Rays players made the list.
Early last week Stacey Long who covers the Montgomery Biscuits (@astacylong) reported that six Rays minor league players had been named to the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League.
Of the six players three will be from the Montgomery Biscuits squad (second baseman Ryan Brett, catcher Curt Casali, and outfielder Todd Glaesmann) and three from Charlotte Stone Crabs (third baseman Richie Shaffer, right-handed reliever Matt Ramsey, and left-handed starting pitcher Grayson Garvin).
The Arizona Fall League is a development league that begins play on October 8 and concludes with a championship game on November 18.
The Salt River Rafters roster will consist of players from the Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks, St. Louis Cardinals, and Colorado Rockies.
Scott Grauer (@5runrally) of Draysbay summarized the type of players found in the AFL:
“players assigned to the AFL usually fall into three categories: those that missed time during the season with an injury or suspension, those in transition to the upper levels of the minors and in need of extra reps, and those that are fringe 40 man roster candidates ahead of December’s Rule 5 draft”
