It was reported earlier that Miami Marlins’ Jose Fernandez will need season-ending surgery on his elbow. Now, CBS Sports is reporting that Fernandez will seek a second opinion to see what his best option is to repair his torn UCL in his throwing elbow.
According to Sports Illustrated, on Monday, Fernandez was informed that he would need Tommy John surgery to repair the torn ligament by Dr. Neil ElAttrache. He is now scheduled to meet with the Marlins’ team physician to see if he will get the same diagnosis.
Fernandez is 21 years old and leads all of baseball with 12.2 strikeouts per nine innings.
