Mariano RiveraFor Mariano Rivera, the time was right to walk away from Major League Baseball.

The retired New York Yankees closer admitted during a late-season lunch with Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz that he was completely drained — and had “no desire” to play any longer.

In one revealing scene, Rivera breaks bread with Ortiz and others in Boston and reveals he “can’t wait” for season’s end, just weeks away.

“You know what? I can’t wait for the moment when this is over,” Rivera said in Spanish to Ortiz, according to Newsday. “I’m ready for it already, brother. I’m ready for it. Mentally and physically, I’m ready for it. There’s no desire anymore.”
