Heavy-weight (payroll) teams are expected to be in the hunt for Tanaka- including the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, among others – if the Eagles make him available, but most people around the industry think they’re leaning towards that option.
One of Japan’s scouts said Monday, however, that he is worried about Tanaka’s arm after how much he threw over the weekend in the Eagles championship run. On Saturday, Tanaka threw a 160-pitch, complete-game that earned him a loss in Game 6 of the Japan Series, and on Sunday night he was brought in to get the last three outs of Game 7, a 15 pitch outing.
With how much pitch count is monitored in Major League Baseball, it may hit clubs that the 25-year old right-hander totaled 175 pitches in two days as they attempt to start bidding for him.
