Jacob Turner Traded To Cubs For Two Minor Leaguers

Jacob Turner Headed To Chicago

Chicago Cubs v Miami Marlins

Jacob Turner, who only recently turned 23, has been acquired by the Cubs for minor league right-handers Tyler Bremer and Jose Arias. The team placed a claim on him after the Marlins designated the once top prospect earlier in the week. week.

It is a surprising move for the Marlins given that Turner was the center of the trade that sent Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante to the Tigers, but it is a smart for the Cubs, who are buying low on another once-promising right-hander, as they did with Jake Arrieta.

While Turner may never pitch at the level Arrieta has in 2014, the small cost the Marlins let him go for made it an easy call for Cubs GM Jed Hoyer.

Bremer, 24, has a 3.10 ERA with 10.8 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9 in 52 1/3 relifer innings between between Class-A Kane County and Class-A Advanced Daytona this season.

Arias, 23, has a 1.77 ERA with 11.3 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9 in 40 2/3 innings with Class-A Kane County this season.

The Marlins have obviously lost faith in Turner beause it’s hard to make sense of the deal without that being the answer, as neither pitcher Miami acquired in the trade ranked among the Cubs’ top 30 prospects heading into the season.
