Giants and Cubs Land Free Agents

Sources close to the San Francisco Giants say that the club has reached a deal to bring back RP Jeremy Affeldt. He would earn roughly $18 million over the next three seasons. Affeldt played a big role in helping lead the Giants to their second World Series title in three years.

The Chicago Cubs have finalized a deal, signing former Twins SP Scott Baker to a one year contract worth a guaranteed $5.5 million. Baker missed all of 2012 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. The Cubs are hoping he can return to his 2009 – 2011 form; Baker averaged more than 11 wins per season during that stretch. The Cubs pitching staff finished near the bottom in every major category last season.
