While the following may seem as a typographical error, I can assure you it isn’t. The Miami Marlins defeated the Colorado Rockies 10-1 on Monday night.
The Fish managed to record 14 hits on Opening Day with the bulk of the production coming from their outfield. Playing in left was Christian Yelich, center Marcell Ozuna and in right was Giancarlo Stanton. Combined, they batted .500 and scored seven of their teams ten runs.
Third baseman Chris McGehee who was playing in Japan last season was a nice surprise at the cleanup position, going 2 for 4 and driving in four RBI.
Last seasons Rookie of the Year Jose Fernandez was just as impressive on the mound. In six innings, Fernandez struck out nine while only giving up five hits and throwing a strike 77 percent of the time.
Game two of this four game series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:10 pm in Marlins Park. Brett Anderson will have the start for the Rockies as he is set to face Miami’s Nate Eovaldi.
