Tigers To Extend Miguel Cabrera

6:59pm: Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports new details of the contract:

Morosi also notes that the AAV of Cabrera’s new deal will exceed that of the extension recently signed by Clayton Kershaw:

6:44pm: The deal will be for ten years and just under $300MM, reports ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick.

That tally would include the two years for which Cabrera is already under contract, apparently meaning that the new money would land at eight years and around $250MM.

The Tigers have agreed to terms on an extension with star slugger Miguel Cabrera, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (via Twitter). Cabrera’s new deal is expected to be for seven or more years, Heyman adds. Cabrera is represented by Relativity Baseball.

Cabrera, who turns 31 in April, has been the game’s most consistent force at the plate for at least the past four seasons.

An official announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.
