Jason Schwartz reports that Astros shortstop prospect Carlos Correa suffered a potentially serious leg injury during a minor-league game on Saturday night while playing for High-A Lancaster of the California League. He sustained the injury while sliding feet-first into third base to complete a triple.
Correa was being aggressive on hit to LF corner. Made it to 3rd safely but appeared to over slide over the bag. Was in immediate pain. — Jason Schwartz (@jasondschwartz) June 22, 2014
Though all of this sounds very bad for Correa, nothing is yet known with regard to severity or his status going forward. Correa, 19, was the first overall pick in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and is batting .325/.417/.504 for Lancaster so far this season to go along with 16 doubles and 20 steals in 61 games.
