Babe Ruth Watch To Be Auctioned Off

RuthUnless you’re a Red Sox fan, who wouldn’t want a piece of memorabilia once used by The Sultan of Swat?

The grandson of Babe Ruth is auctioning off the watch given to the baseball legend in his last appearance at Yankee Stadium in 1948, a few months before he died of cancer.

The watch was presented to Ruth on June 13, 1948, when he appeared in pinstripes for the last time as his No. 3 was formally retired on the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium.

The watch given to Ruth by the Yankees is a 14-karat Longines pocket model with an engraving on the back that reads: “Babe Ruth — Silver Anniversary — Yankee Stadium 1923-1948 ‘The House That Ruth Built.'”
