Cabrera might have aggravated a previous ailment Tuesday night against Minnesota, or he may have a new one.
“You could see it in his facial expression,” said Tigers manager Jim Leyland about 15 minutes after a 6-3 loss to the Twins, adding he didn’t know what Cabrera’s latest ailment was.
Leyland said Cabrera was in pain after his first swing in the ninth inning. Cabrera struck out swinging with two on and two out.
Leyland wasn’t sure if the injury was in Cabrera’s groin or stomach area. Cabrera has been playing through a strained lower abdomen, injured hip and banged-up left leg.
Cabrera had one hit in five at-bats, dropping his batting average to .359 with 40 homers and 120 RBIs.
