Miami running back Duke Johnson has been cleared to play against Wake Forest on Saturday after being sidelined with a migraine last Thursday night in the Canes’ 27-23 win at North Carolina. The game is noon kick on ESPNU from Sun Life Stadium ..
The Canes enter the game ranked No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches poll and ranked 7th in the AP Media poll. For now the focus is where it should be and that better be Wake. Like FSU the Hurricanes can not look to far into the future and get upset before their November 2nd showdown in Miami in primetime on ABC.
Wake Forest improved to 4-3 on the season after beating Maryland 34-10 at home on Saturday. The Demon Deacons produced 307 yards against the Terps defense. QB Tanner Price completed 26 of 36 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown. WR Michael Campanaro caught a whopping 11 balls for 122 yards and a touchdown for the Demon Deacons. RB Josh Harris rushed 9 times for 47 yards and a score. Price has thrown for 1,476 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Campanaro has caught 55 balls for 704 yards and 5 touchdowns for the Demon Deacons. The Wake Forest defense, which came in ranked 24th in points allowed at 20.3 per game, gave up 383 yards to Maryland but only 10 points. The Demon Deacons capitalized on three turnovers and did a great job getting off the field on third down. This Demon Deacons defense will have its second toughest test of the season when they head down to Miami this weekend. The last time Wake Forest hit the road they lost 56-7 at Clemson.
Miami improved to 6-0 on the season after beating North Carolina 27-23 on the road last week. The Hurricanes needed to dig deep in order to earn the win in Chapel Hill on Thursday. Miami produced 556 total yards of offense with a well balanced attack. QB Stephen Morris completed 19 of 25 passes for 322 yards with four interceptions, which matched his season total. WR Phillip Dorsett caught 2 balls for 68 yards, while WR Hurns caught 6 balls for 98 yards in the win. RB Duke Johnson carried the ball 8 times for 83 yards, while RB Crawford carried the ball 33 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns. The Miami defense gave up 500 total yards to the Tar Heels, with 395 coming thru the air. The Hurricanes forced 2 turnovers and did a good job getting off the field on third down. Miami ranks 11th in points allowed at 17.2 per game and 13th in points scored at 42.2 points per contest. Miami also ranks in the top 30 in passing yards and rushing yards this season. However, the Hurricanes will be without WR Dorsett who will be out with a knee injury and RB Johnson is questionable for this week’s game after suffering a concussion.
