Mets Release Kyle Farnsworth

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the New York Mets released veteran reliever Kyle Farnsworth late last night:

The news is a bit shocking considering the Mets’ bullpen woes. It’s not as if Farnsworth had struggled to this point in the season, either, as he had a 3.18 ERA over 17 innings.

As ESPN’s Adam Rubin points out, however, Farnsworth signed an advance consent agreement with the Mets that enables them to pay him for 45 days instead of the full season, and Wednesday was the deadline.

The Mets have called up Josh Edgin from Triple-A Las Vegas to take the vacant spot in the bullpen.
