According to Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, it’s not true. That is the hiring of an FBI agent after the 2006 Finals.

The Oregonian is doing a five-part series about officiating in the NBA and their very own John Canzano spoke to a former a FBI agent who said he had consulted with Cuban and looked into the league’s officiating after the 2006 Finals after Dwyane Wade was getting calls and pushing the Heat past the Mavs.

Cuban denied such on Twitter:

Then in an interview with Canzano, provided details.

Cuban called in to my radio show (Line 2) and said he, too, wanted to clear up the context of any possible conversation he had with Flagg, “I don’t recall calling the guy. But when the whole (Tim) Donaghy thing was going on I talked to a lot of people so I don’t think it’s inconceivable that I could have talked to him.”

The Mavericks owner said of the 2006 NBA Finals (Dallas-Miami) officiating, “There’s a reason why I got fined. It was horrible. It was beyond horrible.”

Warren Flagg is a 27-year FBI veteran and he disputes some of the details but did confirm that Cuban never hired or paid for any services by Cuban.
