Mark Barron Out vs the Rams, Masifilo Promoted
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will not only be without backup defensive end Da'Quan Bowers Sunday against the? Rams, but also starting strong safety Mark Barron, who did not make the trip to St. Louis.
Barron was limited all week in practice with a hamstring injury that?he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers. He left the game during the third quarter and did not return. He was listed as questionable in the team's final injury report Friday.
Since his rookie season in 2012, Barron, a seventh-overall pick, started all 30 games he's participated in. Sunday will mark the first time in his two-year career that he'll miss a game due to injury.
Barron is currently second on the team with 70 solo tackles and 88 combined. He also has two sacks and two interceptions for the season.
Keith Tandy will start in Barron's place. A second-year converted cornerback out of West Virginia,?Tandy started three games this season for Dashon Goldson, recording three interceptions and a forced fumble.
Against the Seattle Seahawks, Tandy made a touchdown-saving interception at the goal line. Against the Detroit Lions, Tandy came up big again, picking off quarterback Matthew Stafford at the 1-yard line to help preserve a 24-21 win.
Matt Masifilo promoted to 53-man roster
To account for the?open roster spot left?by wide receiver Russell Shepard, who was placed on IR this week with a toe injury, the Bucs promoted defensive tackle Matt Masifilo from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound product of Stanford was signed from the 49ers' practice squad last season.
