The Mariotti Show streams live M-F noon to 3 ET.
Hour One on The Jay Mariotti Show: August 15, 2013:?In a year when small-market teams again are faring well in baseball -- Pirates, Rays, A's -- the Dodgers have emerged as a $230-million monster on the hottest 48-game streak in MLB since 1942. Jay wants to know if the Dodgers are ``hateable'' the way the Yankees have been. He concludes no, largely because of Vin Scully and Dodger Stadium, and he dreams of a Dodgers vs. A's/Rays World Series. Jay thanks the heavens that expanded replay is coming to baseball. And Jay, even after the Tom Brady Scare That Wasn't, reiterates that too many ACL tears and other injuries are happening in the preseason -- and urges the NFL to minimize the preseason and training camp.
Hour Two on The Jay Mariotti Show: August 15, 2013:?Jay says this is a bad week for Fox Sports 1 -- and the network hasn't even launched yet -- and applauds ESPN for the hiring of Jason Whitlock as another quality ``niche'' analyst. Jay applauds MLB for officially approving expanded replay, wondering what took so long and also worrying that already-slow-and-dawdling games will last longer if managers opt for the maximum six replays per game. Jay-M thinks Jay-Z can't miss as an agent because athletes want all the perks he can bring, but also thinks Jay-Z will tire of the egos and demands and stick to his hip-hop empire. Jay-M raps along to the Jay-Z tune that mentions Robinson Cano and Scott Boras. Jay-M remembers the day Lil' Wayne appeared on ``Around The Horn.'' Jay thinks the comeback of Michelle Wie is pretty cool -- she went to Stanford, matured and returned to golf.
Hour Three on The Jay Mariotti Show: August 15, 2013:?Jay talks about the multi-dimensional focus of?mariottishow.com?and a video he taped on the Tampa Bay Rays and their ``tin can'' dome -- and how the team inside is overcoming it all with smart front-office people and a hip manager. Jay talks NFL quarterbacks and predicts Michael Vick will not be the Philadelphia starter under Chip Kelly. Jay discusses expanded replay and how commissioner Bud Selig, due to retire next year, finally is gettting around to all the problems he should have fixed years ago.
