The Mariotti Show streams live M-F noon to 3 ET.
Hour One on The Jay Mariotti Show: November 20, 2013:
Jay gauges fallout from the Gronkowski-Kuechly non-call and agrees with ESPN’s Trent Dilfer: Ambiguous rules and bad calls erode the NFL fan experience.
This is the second major officiating in two seasons on Monday Night Football, and while the replacement refs are gone, viewers deserves more finality in terms of clear rules and full-blown explanations afterward.
Alex Rodriguez storms out of his own grievance hearing in New York, shouting obscenities at MLB official Rob Manfred after an arbitrator doesn’t force commissioner Bud Selig to testify.
Jay says A-Rod is a two-time liar who deserves no compassion and shouldn’t play in the majors again, but says he does deserve due process from the arbitrator. Jay wonders what Selig is hiding and reminds listeners that A-Rod’s aim is to expose MLB for its complicit role in The Steroids Era. Even if Rodriguez gets nowhere in the arbitration process, this will spill into federal court and may last for years, long after Selig retires.
Baseball, Jay says, has tumbled from top-sport status when Selig and his henchmen run Fay Vincent out of office in 1992 to No. 4 status behind the NFL, college football and the NBA.
Hour Two on The Jay Mariotti Show: November 20, 2013:
Jay continues with commentary of A-Rod vs. Selig.
Jay breaks down the latest legal twists in the Jameis Winston case, reminding listeners that both sides are posturing and wondering why it took months for the alleged victim to speak out about alleged intimidation attempts and investigative neglect by a Tallahassee Police Department detective. If the alleged victim didn’t want to pursue the case in January, as the top Tallahassee city executive said this week, why is her attorney coming out with statements about the detective just as Florida State and Winston are positioned for a national title and a Heisman Trophy?
And why did TMZ and the Tampa Bay Times suddenly receive leaks now? Who leaked it? And why would media leaks lead to the case being reopened? Jay smells rats everywhere.
Hour Three on The Jay Mariotti Show: November 20, 2013:
More A-Rod, more Winston.
