Manning Just Wanted To Be Paid Less Than Tom Brady

According to ESPN, when Peyton Manning became a free agent after being released from the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, he had one request for his agent while finding a new team: He did not want to be paid more than Tom Brady.
Manning’s agent, Tom Condon, talked about Manning’s free agency in an interview with MMQB.com.
Condon said that a dozen teams were interested in Manning and he thought he would be able to secure a deal of around $25 million per season for the future Hall of Fame quarterback. According to MMQB, When Manning made the decision to sign with the Broncos, he asked Condon: “What does Tom Brady make?”
“$18 million a year,” Condon replied. Manning then answered, “then I don’t want to make a penny more than that.”
We know that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are longtime rivals but together, they combine for over $33.3 million in average salary.
Manning’s agent claims that Manning was pretty upset with him when he found out the Broncos’ offer was for $19.4 annually. He again had to remind his agent that he didn’t want to make more than Brady.
Condon ultimately apologized for making such a “preposterous” deal and called Manning’s wife to help persuade Manning to take the deal.
