It’s not a secret that the Orlando Magic is going through a rebuilding process. For the most part, rebuilding means more losses than wins, learning lessons the hard way and having a lot of young players on the roster.
This holds true for the Magic, currently nine out of the 15 Magic players have three years or less of NBA experience.
To help mentor the young roster Magic’s General Manager Rob Hennigan has made sure to add players with experience to the team.
Guard Ronnie Price is one of them. The eight-year veteran was acquired via free agency by Orlando this past July. Price will help fill the void of Beno Udrih who signed with the New York Knicks as a free agent this past summer.
Hennigan along with the Magic coaching staff hope Price’s experience will help develop the team in a positive way and balance out the young roster.
The Magic will be Price’s fifth NBA team in his eight-year career. He previously played for the Kings, Jazz, Suns and most recently the Trail Blazers.
Price appeared in 39 games last season with Portland before being waived on Feb. 21, 2013. In the 39 games, Price averaged 2.7 ppg., 1.9 apg., 1.1 rpg., 13.1 minpg. The 30-year-old Texas native has career averages of 3.5 ppg., 1.4 apg. and 1.1 rpg. Price also brings experience in the postseason; in 28 career playoff outings, Price has averaged 2.2 ppg. and 1.1 apg. in 6.5 minpg.
From the looks of it Hennigan is looking to beef up the backcourt. Price will most likely come off the bench behind Jameer Nelson and rookie Victor Oladipo.
This past summer, the Magic and Price agreed to a two-year contract for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 season with the first year being guaranteed. Price is set to make $1.2 million this coming season and $1.3 million next season if he is not waived on or before July 10, 2014.
Price will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2014-15 season.Magic's Ronnie Price will balance out young roster by Mary Stevens
