Magic Vs. Cavaliers Story Lines 10-11-13
Kyrie Irving vs. Jameer Nelson and Victor Oladipo- On Wednesday night the Orlando Magic guards had issues containing Pelicans All-Star Jrue Holiday and keeping him out of the paint. If the Magic want to win this game they will have to make the important adjustments and keep Irving from dictating the tempo and making plays at the basket. Oladpio talked about matching up with the premiere point guards in the NBA, tonight he will get that opportunity. The Magic rookie must stay poised and patient against Irving, don't over play the guard to one side and force him to play out of rhythm. Both Magic guards will also need to fight over screens and not allow Irving the easy read on offense.
Players to watch:
Cleveland Cavaliers Anthony Bennett- Cleveland's number one overall pick was anything but impressive in his NBA pre-season debut. The power forward shot 2-12 from the field and finished with seven points. However, Bennett did grab 10 rebounds and defended the low post very well.
Orlando Magic Andrew Nicholson- The Magic power forward shot the ball extremely well against the Pelicans. Nicholson finished with 13 points while shooting 60% from the field. His shot is smooth and he has a great follow through. Nicholson averaged only 3.4 rebounds last season, if he doesn't hit the glass hard tonight it will lead to second chance opportunities for Cleveland.
Tonights game is about two franchises moving forward following the departure of superstars. The Cavaliers are hoping with the addition of Andrew Bynum they can add an elite center to play along side their star guard Kyrie Irving. Jarrett Jack adds leadership along with Tristan Thompson's ability to score the ball, a very dangerous combination. On the other side of the court the Magic are looking for rookie Victor OLadipo to develop into a young star. His ability to score and keep his teammates involved on offense is important to the growth of this young roster. I would like to see Tobias Harris be a little more aggressive on offense for the Magic, if he does so it will open up the scoring for the guys around him.
