Magic 2013-2014 Media Day
With the start of the 2013-2014 NBA season around the corner, Monday the Orlando Magic held their media day.
On the Magic practice court there was a lot of optimism about the teams future.
“It’s a process, it’s not going to happen over night,” Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan said.
“Even though this is a win now league, we have to be patient and build trust,” Hennigan added.
Head coach Jaque Vaughn was all smiles and cracked a few jokes in his interview.
“You have to enjoy it all, it goes by too fast,” Vaughn said.
If anyone would know, it would be him. Vaughn played in the NBA from 1997-2009 with five different franchises.
“Being a former player and not that long ago helps me communicate with the young guys,” Vaughn told me.
Not only is his coaching style great for the younger players, but his veteran point guard is a fan of his too.
“I love playing for him (Vaughn), its fun,” Magic point guard Jameer Nelson said.
Nelson entering his ninth season talked a little about his future and the offseason.
“I haven’t really changed my offseason preparation,” Nelson said.
“I feel great, 30 isn’t old at all,” he added while laughing.
Now that the Magic have such a young roster with more changes to come, Nelson will probably be in trade talks throughout the season.
“I’m used to, it doesn’t bother me,” Nelson told reporters.
“I’ve been in my number of trade talks, I just keep playing and hope I can finish my career here,” he finished.
Veteran forward Glen Davis seemed very down when he spoke with reporters.
“It’s tough, I want to play and I can’t,” Davis said about his foot injury.
Davis had foot surgery not that long ago and it has limited his ability to prepare for the upcoming season.
“I’ve only really been able to work on my set shot and free throws,” he explained.
The talk during NBA summer league was the Magic’s number two overall pick, Victor Oladipo.
“Man I’m just excited to be here,” Oladipo said.
Oladipo will play both the point guard and shooting guard positions this season.
“I’m willing to do whatever the team needs of me,” Oladipo added.
The Magic will travel up to Jacksonville and play the New Orleans Pelicans October 9th, tip off set for 7pm.
