Longoria Talks About All-Star Game, Lineups Posted

The Tampa Bay Rays (47-40) send Matt Moore (11-3, 3.65 ERA) to the mound to take on the Chicago White Sox (34-49) who counter with Chris Sale (5-7, 2.79 ERA) in a battle of two of the best left handers in the American League.

Sale last faced the Rays on April 25th and went 7 innings allowing 2R/ER on 4 hits striking out 7 and walking 4. That game marked a turnaround of fortune for catcher Jose Lobaton went 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk.

Longoria On Importance All-Star Nod:

Longoria talked about the historical and personal significance of playing in the 2008 All-Star Game in the final year of Yankee Stadium. He said he is excited about possibly being named to the 2013 team, “It’s really really an honor, it’s one of those things I think that you can never –  there can never be too many- it’s one of those things that to be voted in by fans or by peers to play in a game that features the greatest players in the game. There’s no higher honor in my mind, it’s a humbling experience in my mind.”

All-Star Game Family Importance:

He would be excited to take part in the All-Star game parade and have his family, his immediate family, Jamie and his baby Elle on the parade float.

Would Plantar Fasciitis Be An Issue In Playing In All-Star Game?

“If I’m playing for our team I could play in the All-Star Game. I’m not going to decline, not go, I think it’s become a very important game for us as a league – with the importance that’s been placed on it for the world series. If I had an opportunity to play in the game and impact the game in a positive way I’m definitely going to take that opportunity to help the team win.”

About Ron Porterfield Being Named To All-Star Game Training Staff:

“He’s the best in the game in my opinion. Our training staff is great. I think to my career – I wish he would have meant a lot less to be honest with you over the course of the years but he’s meant a tremendous amount. From everything from calling in or any kind of normal issue that you can have any kind of illness to the greater more important things like the hamstring to everything like getting multiple opinions.”
