Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney arrived for work Thursday as the leading hitter in the American League with a .385 average.

Loney received the necessary at-bats Wednesday night to qualify among the league leaders. His 2-for-5 night kept his average at .385, which became the highest in the AL when Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-4 to drop his average to .381.

And after Thursday’s 0-for-1 – including three walks – he is one percentage point behind Cabrera at .381.
