Tampa Bay Lightning Trail The Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 At 2nd Intermission
The Carolina Hurricanes took a 2-1 lead at the 10:11 mark when Jiri Tlusty  scored a shorthanded goal at the 10:11 mark. It was Tlusty’s second goal of the game and his 6th on the season. It was the 7th shorthanded goal scored by the Hurricanes this season which leads the NHL.
Shots On Goal:
The Lightning outshot the Hurricanes 13-10 in the second period and have a 32-18 lead in the game.
The Lightning power play unit went on the ice for the third time in the game and first time in the 2nd period at the 8:48 mark when Brett Bellemore  was sent off for 2-minutes for holding. The Lightning had an excellent opportunity at the 9:31 mark when Valtteri Filppula  had a wrist shot stopped by Justin Peters .
Shortly after Peters’ nice save the Hurricanes came back down the ice and at the 10:11 mark Jiri Tlusty scored his second goal of the game (shorthanded) with assist to Eric Staal  (20) and Ron Hainsey  (6) to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead.
The Lightning Power Play had their second opportunity at the 17:53 mark when Tim Gleason  was sent off for 2-minutes for tripping but were unable to capitalize. The Lightning did have an excellent opportunity on a shot stopped by Justin Peters which resulted in a review of a shot but it was determined that the puck did not cross the center line.
The Lightning Power Play was killed when Radko Gudas  was sent to the penalty box at the 19:02 mark. The Hurricanes will open the third period with the extra skater for the first 1:02.
First Period Notes:
The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Carolina Hurricanes tied at a goal apiece in the first period. Jiri Tlusty  scored his 5th coal at the 4:35 mark for the Hurricanes and Victor Hedman  answered with his seventh goal of the season at the 16:12 mark. The Lightning have been the aggressors thus far leading the Hurricanes in shots on goal 18-9.
