Lightning Recall Kristers Gudlevskis
TAMPA BAY The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today. Additionally, the club announced that goaltender Cedrick Desjardins has been reassigned to Syracuse.
Gudlevskis, 21, dressed for his first NHL game on February 8 against the Red Wings, but served as the back-up. He leads the Crunch in games played with 22 in his first season in North America. His four shutouts lead Syracuse and are tied for the AHL lead. Gudlevskis has assembled an 11-8-2 record with a 2.69 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. He began the season with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, posting a 7-4-0 record with a 1.83 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in 11 games.
A native of Aizkraukle, Latvia, Gudlevskis was selected to represent his native country in the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. He played in four games during the 2013 IIHF World Championships, posting a 2-2-0 record with a 2.22 goals-against average and .925 save percentage.
Gudlevskis was drafted by the Lightning in the fifth round, 124th overall, at the 2013 NHL Draft.
Desjardins, 28, has appeared in one game with the Lightning this season, a relief effort on February 6 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He has appeared in 18 games with the Crunch this season, posting a record of 5-8-2 to go along with a 2.75 goals-against average and .903 save percentage. The 6-foot, 203-pound goaltender appeared in his 200th career AHL contest on December 28 against the Norfolk Admirals. In 202 career AHL games, Desjardins has compiled a record of 100-70-14.
The Edmundston, New Brunswick native appeared in three games with the Lightning last season, compiling a record of 0-3-0 to go along with a 3.00 goals-against average and .890 save percentage. Desjardins has played in six career NHL games, all with the Lightning, notching a record of 2-4-0 with a 2.41 goals-against average and .920 save percentage.
Desjardins was acquired by the Lightning on February 14, 2013 from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for goaltender Dustin Tokarski.
