Lightning Prospect Costello Excited After Development Camp

The Tampa Bay Lightning fans weren’t the only ones excited about the development camp that took place at the Brandon Ice Forum. The Forum had standing room only as fans from all over the Bay area flocked to see prized prospects such as Jonathan Drouin, Andrei Vasalevskiy and newly drafted Anthony DeAngelo.

The prospects were a bit excited too to take part in the week long development camp before going back to their respective junior and college teams.  There were however more than those three prospects at the camp including  Jeff Costello who helped Team Filppula win the 3-on-3 tourney  that the Lightning hosted.Team Filppula consisted of some recent draft picks such as Brayden Point and DeAngelo and clearly outstripped Team Stamkos by beating them 4-1 in the final round.

Costello, acquired from Vancouver a week ago, actually started the day off a bit superstitious as he hit a one-timer that broke the glass of the penalty box. The glass panel was cracked until Brendan O’Donnell finished it off doing the same drill.

” I haven’t [broke the glass before], I got a new stick,” Costello said with a smile. ” I am gonna give credit to the stick.”

On whether or not it was an omen of good things to come, Costello said he felt good and it was a good sign that his shot was on but more importantly he hoped to open some eyes of the Bolts’ staff who were watching.

” I don’t want to be typecast as a one player but it is 3-on-3,” he said. ” I am just hoping that they were watching and taking notice.”

Shattering the glass before the tourney is a good way to get noticed–hopefully for all the right reasons.
