Bolts Begin Important Road Trip By Defeating Canucks 4-2
The Tampa Bay Lightning opened the 2014 portion of their schedule by defeating the Vancouver Canucks by a final score of 4-2. It was the first game of a four game Western Canada road trip and was their fourth consecutive road victory. The Bolts improve their record to 24-12-4 and with the loss the Canucks see their record fall to 23-12-7.
Bishop was once again sterling in goal stopping 22 of 24 shots and picking up his league leading 21st victory on the season and has the Bolts have earned at least a point in his last nine consecutive starts and has only allowed more than two goals once in his past 13 starts.
Valtteri Filppula entered tonight's game with 10 poings (four goals, six assists) over his past seven games. He added a goal and an assist to continue his hot streak and earning the top star on the evening.
His first goal tied the game at 1-1 at the 15:27 mark.
The lead would not last long as Zac Dalpe scored his first goal of the season at the 16:25 mark but the flurry of scoring continued as Nikita Kucherov blasted a power play goal with just 3 seconds remaining in the period to give the Bolts a 3-2 lead heading to the final period.
The Bolts continued to play with intensity into the third period ?and took the important two goal lead at the 7:28 mark when Alex Killorn scored his 1oth goal of the season.
The Lightning will head to Calgary to take on the Flames Friday evening before taking on the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday and the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.
