Lightning: Least Valuable Franchise In The NHL, almost
Forbes released the NHL franchises for 2013 and the Tampa Bay Lightning rank 29th in the league just ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The current value of the Lighting in $180 million with $72 million in revenue in 2012-13 with an operating loss of $5.4 million. Forbes attributes the lost revenue to the team missing the playoffs in back-to-back years.
To put this in perspective the most valuable franchise in the NHL is the Toronto Maple Leaf with a current value of $1.15 billion. In 2012-13 the Leafs’ revenue was $142 million, this could be because the Leafs have the highest average ticket price ($120).
