Lightning Begin Road Trip With 6-3 Victory Over Flyers
Bolts Never Trail In Wining Opening Game Of Three Game Trip, Defeat Flyers 6-3
The Tampa Bay Lightning begin their three game road trip by defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 ending the Flyers 10-game home winning streak. The victory improves the Lightning’s record to 27-14-4 and they move into a tie with the Boston Bruins with 58 points in the top spot in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins will have a chance to regain the top spot against the San Jose Sharks tonight at 10:30 pm.
The two teams combined for seven second period goals.
The Lightning were outshot 38 to 25 but Anders Lindback was impressive in goal making 35 saves. Philadelphia goalie Steve Mason allowed 5 goals in 17 shots through two periods and was replaced by Ray Emery in the third period.
After the game Coach Cooper called Lindback arguably the best play on the ice. “You want to win hockey games in this league you have to have solid or consistent goal tending is what you need.” Cooper said. “For all the bad breaks he’s received, and I would never sit here and say he’s played poorly for us, he’s just received a lot of – he’s had a lot of bad breaks. Today, they went his way.”
Matt Carle had two assists and a +6 rating during the game.
The Lightning travel to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets Monday night at 7:00 pm before finishing the road trip against the New York Rangers Tuesday evening.
