The New York Rangers drew first blood at 4:30 of the period thanks to an errant pass by Radko Gudas. Gudas was attempting to clear the Lightning zone and had the pass intercepted by Derek Stepan who found Rick Nash in front of the net for the easy goal. It was Nash's first goal in seven games and his seventh of the season.
The Lightning tied the game with a power play goal at the 10:41 mark. Valterri Filppula had the puck behind the Rangers luck and fed Teddy Purcell who one timed the puck to Tyler Johnson who drove the puck past Henrik Lundqvist. It was Johnson's 10th goal on the season.
The Lightning took a 2-1 lead at 3:55 when Jean-Philippe Cote fed Radko Gudas who took a shot from near the blue line which Henrik Lundqvist was unable to secure. The rebound went out to Ondrej Palat who shot it past Lundqvist for his sixth goal of the season.
