Lamarcus Joyner Selected by the St. Louis Rams
With the 41st pick in the NFL draft the St. Louis Rams selected former Florida State cornerbackLamarcus Joyner. A dynamic player, Joyner played corner and safety during his career at Florida State. He was a finalist for 2013 Jim Thorpe award after finishing the season with 69 tackles, second on the team, seven tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.
Joyner is undersized at only 5 feet 8 inches, but he plays with the physicalityof a much larger player. Coming out of high school Joyner was a five-star prospect (according to Rivals.com) and the number one ranked cornerback in the country.
Joyner spent his freshman season at corner before moving to safety for his sophomore and junior seasons. Before his senior season Joyner made the move back to corner and he flourished as thenickle back in FSU's hybrid 3-4 defense. The position offered him the opportunity to apply pressure off the edge and consistently matched him up against larger wide receivers.
Joyner's biggest strengths are his instincts and constant motor which allow him to overcome his size limitations. He will join former teammateGreg Reidin the Ram's secondary. The Rams signed Reid as a free agent this past summer.
