The Knights scored 14 points within nine seconds late in the game to steal a win from the Memphis Tigers Saturday night.
Drico Johnson scooped up a fumble with under two minutes left in the game and took it to the house to give UCF a 24-17 win against Tigers.
The fumble was forced by running back Will Stanback on the ensuing kickoff immediately following a UCF touchdown.
UCF quarterback Blake Bortles took control of the game in the final few minutes of the game, as he led the Knights to an 80-yard touchdown drive to tie the game up at 17.
Bortles, who had been extremely efficient all season long, completed under 50 percent of his passes, but came up big when the team needed him too.
The junior went 17-for-38 with 180 yards in the air. Bortles was plagued by his wide receivers in the first half, who dropped a combined five passes.
The offense was atrocious for a majority of the game, gaining just 275 yards in the game after averaging 450 yards per game through the first four games.
Running back Storm Johnson was one of the few offensive bright spots for UCF, as he ran for 86 yards on 16 carries. Stanback also contributed offensively rushing for a touchdown in the third quarter.
The Knights, who gained just 95 yards of total offense in the first half, came back in the third quarter and drove down the field for a 91-yard touchdown drive.
The UCF front seven kept this game much closer than it should have been. The defense exploded for five sacks in the game, while also forcing Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch for a pair of interceptions.
Linebacker Terrance Plummer iced the game with an interception with 35 second left in the game, his second of the game, clinching the win for the Knights.
The win for UCF (4-1, 1-0) was the program’s first win in the American Athletic Conference.
The Knights will take a week off, their second bye week, before getting ready to face Louisville Oct. 18.Knights win 24-17 in wild finish by Bryan Levine
