Kevin Kiermaier Wants To Do Whatever It Takes To Help Rays

Rookie Outfielder Continues To Impress With Bat & Glove

Kevin Kiermaier [1] had another full evening of baseball for the Tampa Bay Rays. He contributed with the bat going 1 for 4 with a RBI double and scored a run and reached base after getting hit by a pitch.

He also showed the fantastic closing speed in the outfield as he raced in to make a nice grab on a sinking liner off the bat of Alex Pressley in the bottom of the eighth inning (Link [2]).

After the game he talked about just wanting to make the most of his opportunity with the Rays. “It’s huge. I want to stay up here and be here as long as I can. Ever since my call-up, I said I’m going to make the best of this opportunity and do anything I can to help the team win. Like I said, I just want to come up here and I want to create a spark and gain a little respect from the players and coaches, showing them what I can do. I just want to play hard every day and not really change a thing.”

About his closing speed he says, “It’s one of those things so I have to use it any way I can whether it’s on the basepaths or out there on defense. I put a lot of hard work in the offseason for me. Train fast to be fast that’s what everyone says.”
