Kevin Kiermaier Wants To Do Whatever It Takes To Help Rays

Rookie Outfielder Continues To Impress With Bat & Glove

Kevin Kiermaier had another full evening of baseball for the Tampa Bay Rays. He contributed with the bat going 1 for 4 with a RBI double and scored a run and reached base after getting hit by a pitch.

He also showed the fantastic closing speed in the outfield as he raced in to make a nice grab on a sinking liner off the bat of Alex Pressley in the bottom of the eighth inning (Link).

After the game he talked about just wanting to make the most of his opportunity with the Rays. Its huge. I want to stay up here and be here as long as I can. Ever since my call-up, I said Im going to make the best of this opportunity and do anything I can to help the team win. Like I said, I just want to come up here and I want to create a spark and gain a little respect from the players and coaches, showing them what I can do. I just want to play hard every day and not really change a thing.

About his closing speed he says, "It's one of those things so I have to use it any way I can whether it's on the basepaths or out there on defense. I put a lot of hard work in the offseason for me. Train fast to be fast that's what everyone says."
