Kafka Has A Chance To Win Jags Starting Job

Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell was asked to assess the chances of Mike Kafka, who was claimed off waivers this week from the Patriots, and hasnt taken a snap of work in team drills with his new club yet.

He replied that Kafka had just as good an opportunity to win the starting job as Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne or undrafted rookie Matt Scott, via Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com.

While thats a recognition that the 25-year-old Kafka has some skills, its also a tacit admission that they havent been blown away with Gabbert or Henne.

Its one thing to have an open competition, but the fact a guy can walk in off the street and be on equal footing with a former first-round pick speaks volumes.
