Some had pegged him for a possible reunion with former Bears head coach Lovie Smith, but instead Julius Peppers is headed to Green Bay.

On Saturday morning, Peppers signed a three-year deal with the Packers for a reported $30 million max with $8.5 million guaranteed. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Josina Anderson [1].

Peppers’ agent, Carl Carey tweeted these photos:

On Tuesday, Peppers was released by the Bears, [4] largely because of his salary, and because GM Phil Emery expressed a desire to go younger on defense.

In Chicago, Peppers was scheduled to make $13.9 million is 2014 and would have counted $20 million against the cap.

During Peppers’ illustrious 12-year career spent between Chicago and Carolina, he registered 119 sacks, 17th in NFL history.

He also has the fifth-most double-digit sacks in league history with eight, and is 10th in forced fumbles, among a number of other accolades, including eight Pro Bowl appearances.

Despite Peppers’ career accolades, it’s an interesting move by the Packers. Peppers is a prototypical 4-3 defensive end joining a predominantly¬†3-4 scheme.

Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers will likely incorporate some situational pass rushing and mix in some 4-3 looks.
