Johnson on the verge of his 6th NASCAR Title
For Jimmie Johnson the driver of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy, he heads into the final race of the 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Title with a huge 28 point lead. Matt Kenseth, who pilots Joe Gibbs Racing, No. 20 Toyota knows that going to Homestead - Miami this weekend it would take a miracle to pull off a win.
All Johnson has to do to win his sixth NASCAR Title is to finish 23rd or better and he cashes in on the "Six Pack" of Championship trophies. But less you think that the points leader is in anyway over confident coming back to Florida this weekend for the season finally.
Johnson was confident last year after he left Texas Motor Speedway with a seven-point advantage over Brad Keselowski, only to blow a tire and watch his advantage fade away. He left Phoenix second in the points standings and 40 points behind the No. 2 Penske Racing team Dodge. A rear gear issue at Homestead-Miami Speedway the following week knocked Johnson to a 36th-place finish and third in the points standings, so he is wary that anything can happen in racing to ruin your day or your year so he will be ready.
As for Kenesth he came into the final four races with a seven point lead but after poor showings at Talladega, Texas and yesterday at Phoenix he has no one to blame but himself for what happened. But what?Keselowski did last year to Johnson has to have given Kenseth a little hope.
The Ford 400, at Homestead-Miami will decide the issue once and for all and I will extensive leading up to the race right here all week.
