Joe Maddon Described Bullpen As 'Tired'
The Rays had Monday off, got a complete game from lefty David Price on Tuesday, and lost to the Twins in 12 innings 6-4 on Wednesday. To add to the misery, they have an early start time for Thursday, at 1:10.
Manager Joe Maddon was asked how the bullpen is feeling and he said, via the Tampa Bay Times, 'tired.' At the time, he hadn't heard yet from executive VP Andrew Friedman to know if there would be a roster move, which will probably be Brandon Gomes, unless the Rays want to give up Josh Leuke.
Maddon says "it's a a little bit shaky", but the bullpen should be able to bounce back. Shaky because Gomes threw 32 pitces in 1 2/3 innings while Grant Balfour twirled 31 over two and Lueke 40.
Juan Carlos Oviedo is coming off the DL and warmed up yesterday, but wasn't used but according to Maddon, he could have pitched a 13th inning if needed.
Another key for today's game will be getting a long start from Erik Bedard, according to Maddon.
No word of any roster move by #Rays to bolster bullpen. Headed down to clubhouse now— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) April 24, 2014
