Jenna Laine Talks Bucs Free Agency on Sirius XM NFL Radio
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made some pretty big moves in the opening week of NFL free agency, and the rest of the world took notice. On Saturday afternoon I joined Alex Marvez and Zig Fracassi on Siriux XM NFL Radio’s The End Zone to talk about these moves.
We talked about the Bucs’ decision to part ways with Darrelle Revis, along with releasing left tackle Donald Penn and right guard Davin Joseph. Were these the right moves?
We talked about Revis’ replacement in Alterraun Verner and why he may actually be a better fit for Lovie Smith’s Tampa 2 defense and they got him at a bargain price – a four-year contract worth $25.5 million. He’s got the quickness they’re looking for and the ball skills Smith loves.
We talked about the signing of quarterback Josh McCown. I told Alex and Zig that I thought signing him was the right move. Declaring him the starter? Maybe a bit premature, but it’s slim-pickins’ on the free agent market at QB, and G.M. Jason Licht said the team “didn’t want to be pigeon-holed in the draft.”
Plus, drafting at No. 7, behind at least four teams in need of a quarterback, who’s to say they’d land a quarterback? And they got McCown for a good deal too – two years, $10 million, not including incentives. It’s the same deal the Vikings dished out for Matt Cassel.
We also talked about offensive tackle Anthony Collins and if he can be that franchise left tackle they’re expecting, and the newest addition, offensive center/guard Evan Dietrich-Smith.
