Gators Jeff Driskel Ready For An Explosive Season
Its back to the Gator grind for the Florida football team as it prepares for the 2014 college football season, and theres no question that many Gators are ready to redeem themselves after a depressing season finishing 4-8 one player in particular is starting quarterback Jeff Driskel.
Driskels 2013 season ended prematurely after suffering a broken leg in a victory over Tennessee early in the first quarter as he was throwing a pass that was intercepted and returned by the Vols for a touchdown. However, now that the 2013 college football season is history, as well as the injury bug- the upcoming season without a doubt, looks much more promising.
"I think the whole team has a chip on its shoulder," Driskel said. "Our record doesn't show the kind of talent we have on our team, and I think we came back and attacked spring with the mentality that 'this is it.' We don't have years to waste, and nobody's going to feel sorry for us."
The 6-foot-4, 237 pounder from Oviedo, Florida is the unquestioned starter which was made crystal clear when spring camp was pushed back to ensure that Driskel would be able to be a full participant. A lot of emphasis this offseason has been on the offensive side of the ball and the development of the new uptempo, shotgun spread offense under former Duke offensive coordinator Kurt Roper. Ropers offensive scheme seems to be a great fit for Driskel as it showcases his strengths and hides his weaknesses.
I think Im picking up the offense well, Driskel said during spring practice. Just like everyone else its a new offense for me too but Im learning with everyone and ironing some things out. I think its coming together quickly.
Florida unveiled a glimpse of this newly implemented offense during spring practice and you can expect to see a much improved explosive offense this fall when the Gators kick off their season against Idaho on August 30th in the swamp.
