Jaylen Watkins Drafted by the Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles have selected Watkins with the first overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL draft. Watkins is the second Florida Gator selected in 2014, joining defensive lineman Dominique Easley.
The 6 foot 194 pound Watkins, is the 13th Gator of all time selected by the Eagles, and will join former UF receiver Riley Cooper in Philadelphia. Watkins was a dynamic player for the Gators, playing corner, nickel and safety, giving him the versatility the Eagles love in their players.
He appeared in 48 games in his 28 starts in his career at Florida and was the teams third-leading tackler in 2013 with 52 total tackles. The Cape Coral native also had phenomenal offseason that included a strong showing at the Senior Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine.
Watkins is the first member of the Florida secondary to be drafted this year, but the second member of his family. Hes the older half-brother of Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins, the fourth overall pick in the first round. With Watkins' selection, the University of Florida has now had three defensive backs selected in the last two drafts, Matt Elam and Josh Evans were taken in 2013.
