James Loney’s Single Plates Winning Run In 1-0 Victory Over Royals

Rays Break Through In 9th For 1-0 Victory

The Tampa Bay Rays finally got a break to go their way and capitalized with a 2-out hit with a runner in scoring position to beat the Kansas City Royals by a final score of 1-0. The victory was the first win for the Rays in Kansas City since July 24, 2011 breaking a seven game losing streak.

The game was in doubt until the top of the ninth inning when the Rays grabbed a 1-0 lead. Wil Myers led the inning off with single and remained at first as Ben Zobrist popped out to shallow center field and Evan Longoria popped out to first baseman Eric Hosmer.

Then the Rays got a break, Royals closer Greg Holland uncorked a wild pitch to advance Myers to second. James Loney ran the count full before sending a single past second baseman Danny Valencia to drive in Myers for the games first run of the night.
