Jake Odorizzi Makes HIs Rays Debut In Afternoon Affair Versus Blue Jays

The Rays continue a stretch of 12 games in a row against AL East opponents fresh off a 3-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles improving their record to a season high 3 games over .500 at 23-20. They take on a Toronto Blue Jays team that had lost their last two games in New York but received a mental health day as their contest Sunday was rained out. Overall the Blue Jays record stands at a disappointing 17-26 and they are in last place in the AL East.

Jake Odorizzi will make his Tampa Bay Rays debut as he looks to fill the giant shoes of injured starter David Price. He was acquired from the Kansas City Royals along with Wil Myers, Mike Montgomery, and Patrick Leonard in exchange for James Shields, Wade Davis, and Elliot Johnson in December 2012. While with the Royals last season he made 2 September starts and went 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA.

He last appeared for the Durham Bulls Wednesday against the Rochester Red Wings and went 5.2 innings allowing 6R/ER on 6 hits while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 3 home runs and made 99 pitches. Overall with the Bulls he has a 4-0 record with a 3.83 ERA.

The Rays will square off against reigning NL Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey who is 3-5 with a 4.83 ERA. It will be the second time the Rays have seen Dickey this season. On May 9th he worked 6 innings allowing 3R/2ER while walking 5 and striking out 5. He was pitted against reigning AL Cy Young award winner David Price but neither was involved in the decision with the Rays winning the game 5-4 on a 10th inning game ending walk issued to Luke Scott.
