During an interview with WGR 550 on Wednesday morning, Bills CEO Russ Brandon tried to clear up something about Byrd’s status with the team. There were reports last week that Byrd was trying to get the team to trade him, reports that Byrd questioned without denying when he was asked about them. Brandon was asked about them as well and said that there’s been no trade request.
“There was no trade requested. That’s not even a topic of conversation in our building,” Brandon said, via Mike Rodak of ESPN.com.
There may not be a formal request, but there’s been little from Byrd to suggest that he’s thrilled to be in Buffalo right now, not that it matters all that much. Between his foot injury, his salary and the inability to sign a long-term extension until after the season, there’s plenty of reasons why a Byrd trade would seem to be a fanciful notion at this moment in time.
