The Jacksonville Jaguars signed unrestricted free agent wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi to a contract, the club announced today. Length and terms of the contract are undisclosed.
Massaquoi, 6-2, 227, is entering his fifth NFL season after spending the last four years with the Cleveland Browns. He was a second-round draft pick of the Browns in 2009, the 50th selection overall. The former Georgia standout has played in 54 games with 43 starts and totaled 118 receptions for 1,745 yards and seven touchdowns. He has two career 100-yard receiving games and 17 receptions of 25-plus yards.
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Massaquoi played in nine games for the Browns in 2012 with five starts and had 17 catches for 254 yards. He produced a career-high 624 yards on 34 receptions as a rookie in 2009 with three touchdowns.
Massaquoi started 36 of 51 games for the Bulldogs and finished his collegiate career with 158 receptions for 2,282 yards and 16 touchdowns. His 2,282 receiving yards ranked fourth in school history. He was a first-team All-SEC selection as a senior after catching 58 passes for 920 yards. He attended Independence High School in North Carolina where he played with NFL receiver Hakeem Nicks and former Florida quarterback Chris Leak. His cousin, Jonathan, is a defensive end for the Atlanta Falcons.
