Jags’ Tinker Dealing With Horrible Loss

Crimson_Tide_Carson_Tinker_2013Carson Tinker has lived a storybook life on the football field.

A walk-on long snapper at Alabama, he played four years, started three and won three national championship rings with the Crimson Tide.

Signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent last April, he beat out veteran Jeremy Cain and another rookie, Luke Ingram, to win the Jaguars’ long snapper job.

Off the field, he hasn’t been so fortunate.

Tinker survived a nightmare experience on April 27, 2011 when a tornado destroyed his house in Tuscaloosa. It also took the life of his girlfriend of 11 months, Ashley Harrison, who was 22 and a senior honors student at Alabama.

Tinker, Harrison and their two dogs and two roommates wedged themselves in a walk-in closet in the bedroom of one of his roommates, Alan Estes, in an attempt to survive the tornado.
