Is Former FSU QB EJ Manuel Ready for Next Step with Bills?
It was the 14th season in a row that the Buffalo Bills missed out on postseason play in 2013. Was quarterback EJ Manuel to blame? Not exactly, but there are some things that the former Seminole needs to work to improve.
The Bills have young talent on both sides of the ball and this year, they will really need to step it up to compete with the New England Patriots in the AFC East. Luckily for Manuel, the Bills are confident in him and they do not plan on drafting a QB next month. But, the team is looking for ways to improve through the draft with their No. 9 overall pick.
Manuel was drafted as the first quarterback to be selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He struggled a bit during his rookie season but his work is not done yet. Last season, he only started 10 games and threw 11 touchdown passes. One weakness that Manuel critics point out is his lack of consistency.
Bills GM Doug Whaley and Coach Doug Marrone are proud of what they did in last year’s draft but this season needs to be a million times better than 2013 for them to make it to postseason play.
In one recent mock draft, the Bills could be selecting TE Eric Ebron, a former North Carolina Tarheel. Obtaining Ebron would add another threat on offense for Manuel to utilize.
Other mock drafts have the Bills selecting WR Mike Evans from Texas A&M. Last year, the Bills drafted Marquise Goodwin and Robert Woods as offensive weapons. Free agency has also been positive for Buffalo, as they have added a pair of linebackers, and former Buccaneer Mike Williams.
But, the team still needs a receiver that is an elite athlete that has the ability to make quick, efficient plays and help Manuel get the support he needs to move forward. Is Former FSU QB EJ Manuel Ready for Next Step with Bills? by Amanda Borges
