Is Driskel the Frontrunner in Florida’s QB Battle?
Gator fans have been looking forward to the intense quarterback competition that was supposed to take place this spring. But now, Jeff Driskel is distancing himself from rookie Will Grier.
Coach Will Muschamp told the Orlando Sentinel that Driskel seems emotional detached.
“Those guys will continue to split reps and Jeff has certainly distanced himself at this point. But those guys have done some nice things at times. Jeff’s been through change before, so I think the more times you go through that stuff you kind of can handle it and move forward, the maturity takes over.”
In the third game of the season last year, Driskel suffered a broken ankle that prevented him from playing for the restof the season. Not only is Driskel coming back, but he’s also getting acclimated to new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper and his up-tempo system. Despite the changes, Muschamp noted that Roper’s offense seems perfect for Driskel.
We are still unsure as to whether Muschamp will name a starter following the spring or allow the battle between Driskel and Grier to go into summer camp.
