On Saturday, the soccer world sets its sites on German powerhouses Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as they square-off in the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final at London’s Wembley Stadium, with game airing nationally at 2 p.m. on Fox.
In an interview Fox Sports Curt Menefee conducted Wednesday with German legend Jürgen Klinsmann , former Bayern Munich manager and current head coach of the United States Men’s National Team made an interesting comparison . The former German soccer star compared the New York Yankees to his old club Bayern Munich.
The interview will play in the Fox pregame show but here is a preview of the conversation:
Menefee asks Klinsmann about the rivalry that has developed over many years between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. It a rivalry which has become one of the greatest in all of soccer, and has everything to do with the apparent social differences between the two communities.
Says Klinsmann: “Absolutely. Two totally different cultures. Dortmund is hard-working (and) lower class where the people there fight for their lives. Their identity is Borussia Dortmund. Bayern Munich is more like the Yankees. They’re more into buying stars even if they’ve developed quite a few good ones over the last couple of years. It’s a clash and that’s what makes it so interesting.”
